Improve Greenhouse Systems With Variable Frequency

Colder weather is upon us and high energy bills are in the mail. Optimize efficiency in your greenhouse systems with a Variable Frequency Drive.

Temperatures are dropping, but your energy costs are likely on the rise. Is your growing  operation ready for another season of bitter cold? With Delta T Solutions’ Variable Frequency Drives, you can ensure that your plants are growing at a constant, precise temperature that will allow them to flourish, while sustainably regulating your energy use and minimizing heating costs.

Variable Frequency technology also works in conjunction with Constant Pressure irrigation systems to solve water pressure and flow fluctuation issues. Costing no more than a typical water pump and holding tank, it provides plants with fresh water as needed. Click here to learn more about Constant Pressure Systems.

WORK SMARTER, NOT HARDER

Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) reduce motor speed and power consumption when full flow is not required, saving your operation energy and money. For example, at 80-percent nominal flow, power consumption is reduced by approximately 50 percent with a VFD.

With the cost savings VFDs provide, their installation can be paid off in less than 12 months, while reducing equipment maintenance costs and operational downtime. If you have pursued LEED certification or are considering it, your operation may qualify for state and local incentives.

VFD RESULTS NOT VARIABLE

Delta T Solutions designs multi-zone heating systems that provide only the necessary flow of heat to the zones of your greenhouse that are activated to receive it, offering precision flow at a lower cost. These systems include several components:

  • Control: A Delta T differential pressure switch control is designed to operate a VFD when the zone control calls for heat in one or more zones. This control gives a signal to the drive to provide the appropriate flow rate for each zone operating.

  • Drives: VFDs provide the appropriate flow for the zones.

  • Two-way Valves: direct flow only to the appropriate zone(s).

  • Actuators: Control the valves for complete shutoff of the water going to a zone where heat is not required.

VFD OPERATING ADVANTAGES

Advantages include:

  • Variable pumping reduces electricity use and costs.

  • No need to stage pumps.

  • No ongoing supervision or adjustments are needed – only normal pump maintenance.

  • Systems are engineered to your flow rate and pressure specifications for multiple-zone use.

  • No need for motor starters.

  • Less stress on AC motor windings and bearings.

  • Less stress and wear on pump.

  • Smoother, longer lasting and more efficient pumping process.
