Take Advantage of Variable Flow Heating Technology
If you have multiple zones needing constant water/heat delivery, you can provide precise temperature control and reduce your electrical costs to operate the pumps with simple modifications.

VS1MXTHE CONCEPT
Design a multiple zone heating system with two-way control valves and single or multiple pumps to provide only the necessary flow for the heating zones in use.

This will reduce the overall electrical consumption of your heating system therefore reducing your electrical costs, while providing precision temperature control for healthier plant growth.

A GREENER OPTION
The Delta T Variable Flow Heating system is part of our efforts to improve energy efficiency, where we use high-efficiency boilers and radiating materials to reduce energy use in a high-energy consumption greenhouse environment.

Other benefits of the Variable Flow Heating (VFH) system are the reduction and/or elimination of motor starters, less stress on the AC motor windings and bearings, and decreased stress and wear on the pump itself. This all equates to a smoother, longer lasting and more efficient operation process.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How difficult/expensive is it to convert an existing Constant Flow System to a Variable Flow System?

A. We’ve developed the Variable Flow Heating package to make it easy to modify or adapt to existing systems. Installation may only require changing valves or plumbing and the potential energy cost savings can be significant.

Delta T Solutions’ experts will analyze your existing system and recommend specific steps to make the modification as fast and easy as possible.

Q. What added expense will there be between a Constant Flow and Variable Flow when dealing with a new system?

A. On large systems (10+ zones, for instance), the cost of the VFH modification can be less than 5% of the total system cost. The actual cost will depend on the size and type of your system, and the modifications required.

Q. What is the payback on either a conversion or new system?

A. Return on investment depends on how frequently you operate your water systems and how complex your system is. Our technology allows you to adapt water delivery to meet your growing specifications and operation. We can also provide customized installation solutions and components as needed. Delta T’s experts can easily calculate your particular payback scenario once we understand your operation.

THE VFH SYSTEM AT WORK
The VFH system consists of several components:
• Control: A Delta T Variable Flow control designed to operate a drive when the zone control calls for heat in one or more zones. This control gives a signal to the drive to provide the appropriate flow rate for each zone operating.
• Drives: Variable frequency drives to provide the appropriate flow for the zones
• Two-way Valves: To direct flow only to the appropriate zone(s).
• Actuators: Control the valves for complete shutoff of the water going to a zone where heat is not required.

The VFH System closely monitors and controls the pump speed, fine-tuning the flow rate to exactly meet the required demand. This control offers precision flow at low cost.

For instance, if you need heat for just a few zones, the system will operate the pump just fast enough to either maintain flow or shut down completely. When you need more flow, the pump speeds up to maintain a proper flow rate.

OPERATING ADVANTAGES
Advantages include:
• Variable pumping reduces electricity use and costs
• No need to stage pumps
• No ongoing supervision or adjustments are needed – only normal pump maintenance
• Systems are engineered to your flow rate and pressure specifications for multiple-zone use
• No need for motor starters
• Less stress on AC motor windings and bearings
• Less stress and wear on pump
• Smoother, longer lasting and more efficient pumping process
